II: Course Description ( Introduction to Cosmetology)

 

Cosmetology is an introductory program to all phases of cosmetology, excluding hair cutting and sculptured nails.  The student acquires the basics in shampooing, hairstyling, manicuring and pedicuring, facials, scalp treatments, nail tips, permanent waving, hair coloring, salon management, and job skills.  In addition, the student has many opportunities to reinforce mathematics and literacy concepts and enhance those skills.  Skills and knowledge acquired in this course can be applied to Barbering, Esthetics, and Make Artist.This class is primarily 75% hands on practical application and 25% theory.   This class emphasizes Career Readiness, where the student can examine career paths and requirements within the Cosmetology industry.  The student will recognize the education, employability skills, training requirements, and opportunities for a career in the cosmetology service field.

 

Required lab fee:   There is a required $20.00 lab fee for this course.

  • Shampoo Lesson Theory on Human Hair

  • French Manicures

  • Facial Shapes

  • Eyebrow Arching

  • Wedding Up-do’s

  • Hair Competition

  • Hi-lights

  • Pedicures

  • Written and Practical Exams on subjects taught

V. Course Requirements

 

  1. attendance and classroom etiquette

 

Cosmetology students are required to attend class on a daily basis and arrive on time.  It is the student’s responsibility to participate in class activities, as well as to study for exams.  Students are expected to be respectful towards the instructors and fellow students.  All work that is submitted by the student must be their own work product.

 

  • Taking notes on each topic of Cosmetology

  • Hands on demonstration to show knowledge of procedures, techniques, and applications

  • Taking a final exam, quiz's, tests.

 

Student attendance and participation are required. A student with excessive absences will be dropped from the class. Refer to your student handbook section on attendance for more clarity.

 

VI. Course Grading Procedure

There will be no “extra credit” in this course. Make-up work will only be accepted if the student turns in an excused absence form in a timely manner. Students are responsible to find out what class assignments or homework assignments they missed and then complete the work. When absences are anticipated, the student is expected to manipulate his/her study schedule to ensure work is completed during the absence. All assignments need to be turned by the dates they are due. All work closes, or becomes inaccessible, at 11:59pm on the date it is due. All work is important. 

 

Grade scale:

A= 90-100

B= 80-89

C= 70-79

D= 60-69

F= 59-0

 

Grades weighted as follows:

Participation 25%

Assignments 25%

Practical's 10%

Test/quiz's 20%

Final 20%
